The Same Three Chords

From here, the world looks so pristine

Skies are blue and grass is green

But the truth is you cant see

The forest for the trees

If I could make it clear

I'd say it all right here

Refrain with the same three chords, everything I have to say

But this message cannot help but sound cliche

I've got no time for struggles or petty strife

'Cause I want to be happy in this life

Life's too short, so what's the rush

To finish in record time?

Take life slow, and love and laugh

'Cause we all reach the finish line...

The Same Three Chords

From here, the world looks so pristine

Skies are blue and grass is green

But the truth is you cant see

The forest for the trees

If I could make it clear

I'd say it all right here

Refrain with the same three chords, everything I have to say

But this message cannot help but sound cliché

I've got no time for struggles or petty strife

'Cause I want to be happy in this life

Life's too short, so what's the rush

To finish in record time?

Take life slow, and love and laugh

'Cause we all reach the finish line...

Slurred

Random words in clips and phrases

Headlines that become murmurs

No one remembers words once said

Unless that person is already dead

Read your letters last night

Could see you writing by the fire light

But the words you wrote are blurred

The voice you use is slurred

Late

Strike that like a match

Lights the candle

Curse the darkness

Spend a night awake

Lay in bed

Here's a pillow for your head

Sleep will come - overtake you

If your among the lucky few

Who dream a dream of pleasant things

Of birds that chirp and a bell that rings

Or if you dream of darker things

Falling from the stars

Fire

Fire in the hallway

Take the exit stairs

No way out but down around

The corner if you care

Buildings burning like bridges I've crossed

Can't go back - Might as well get lost

In the woods I'm in a regal Oak

Watching cities crumble

Like Nero, I fiddle while my empire burns

What I've Lost

An unwritten memoir sitting in the drawer

The dresser full of clothes that no one's wearing anymore

Letters that you never meant to send

Enemies that need to make amends

A slow dance in the darkness, You and I

You look up at me to catch my eye

I ask you a question and you think of a lie

Slipping into darkness

Slipping into night

Tripping over napalm

Setting fire to despair

Burning every bridge that I cross

Travel along till I find love I've lost

Truth

Getting back to the disaster

Folding my hand back into the deck

Watch my life - train wreck

Thought about Friday nights

Internal struggles - eternal fights

There ain't no coming back

Teardrops hit the ivory and black

Forest fires in the night sky

Sounds of oceans sounds of lies

Daybreak or fragile dawn

Dew drops glisten on the lawn

Fresh cut grass begs me to ask

Was it real? What did I feel?

Reality bites the hand that feeds it

Life, the hand that really needs it

A hand of cards left me stranded

On this island I have landed

Lonesome and cold

Slowly growing old

One day soon I'll wake up to find

The truth is a myth that fooled all mankind
